The Applications Engineer is responsible for engineering oversight of product, service, and technical deliverables for customers, with a focus on customer-driven new product introduction (NPI) projects. This role involves cross-functional collaboration, technical problem solving, and direct communication with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand customer applications, vehicle platforms, and technical requirements.
Lead technical communication and project coordination, including product evaluation and testing.
Recommend solutions based on product technologies, materials, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) standards.
Select purchased components and work with suppliers as needed.
Perform engineering calculations and light FEA/CFD analysis using tools such as ANSYS.
Coordinate with development and design teams to complete models and drawings.
Review and release prints and process flow diagrams to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
Create preliminary process flow diagrams and support launch activities.
Collaborate with customer engineers, suppliers, and internal teams across sales, costing, manufacturing, and quality.
Build strong customer relationships through technical leadership.
Support development of solutions related to acoustics, thermals, fluids, power, and durability.
Ensure designs meet requirements for manufacturability, materials, GD&T, performance, and compliance.
Use Creo Parametric to design and model complete exhaust systems.
Coordinate product testing and validation.
Support proposal development, business cases, and product strategies.
Lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives.
Support projects from concept through validation and production launch.
Travel as required.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a related manufacturing or automotive industry.
Experience with CAE and CAD software - 5 years
Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5–2009 GD&T standards
Knowledge of welding and metal forming processes.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $65,000–$75,000 per year.
Discretionary performance bonus.
Medical, dental, and vision benefits (80/20 split) after 90 days.
RRSP match up to 4% after 90 days.
Work boot allowance: $145 per year.
Prescription safety glasses: $150 every two years.
