Automation and Robotics Specialist

The Automation and Robotics Specialist will lead the planning, design, development, and implementation of automation solutions for manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop detailed automation design proposals, including controls, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Specify hardware and components, and support testing, commissioning, and validation.
Interpret and create electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
Prepare, update, and release drawings for new and existing projects.
Install, program, and integrate PLCs, HMIs, robots, drives, sensors, vision systems, and related equipment.
Program and maintain Fanuc, Yaskawa, and KUKA robots for welding and material handling.
Perform online and offline robot programming using simulation tools.
Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and present ROI analyses.
Integrate hardware and software to improve efficiency, throughput, and cycle times.
Prepare training documentation and support handover to production and maintenance teams.
Coordinate with equipment suppliers through design, build, and installation phases.
Participate in APQP activities, including PFMEA, control plans, capability studies, and root cause analysis.
Support equipment trials, buy-offs, and run-at-rate activities.
Conduct associate training on new equipment and processes.
Troubleshoot automation and electrical systems with maintenance teams.
Lead and participate in continuous improvement, RCA, 5-Why, and 8D activities.
Support KPIs related to productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
Travel as required to the US and Mexico

Education:
Bachelor’s or college degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Robotics, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
P.Eng. designation is an asset.
PMP or project management experience is an asset.

Qualifications:
5–10 years of verifiable experience in controls and automation within a manufacturing or automation environment.
Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
Strong ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
Working knowledge of industrial PCs and PLC platforms such as Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, etc.
Hands-on experience with electronics, pneumatics, and electromechanical systems.
Experience programming PLCs and HMIs (Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, Omron, Siemens).
Knowledge of industrial networks, machine safety circuits, VFDs, servo drives, and control systems.
Ability to perform basic wiring, installations, and troubleshooting.
Strong technical communication skills and ability to work independently.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Willingness and ability to travel. Valid passport is required

Assets:
Vision systems experience.
Knowledge of welding or tube bending processes.
Experience with Visual Basic or Excel macros.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $60,000 – $90,000 per year.
Discretionary performance bonus.
Medical, dental, and vision benefits (80/20 split) after 90 days.
RRSP match up to 4% after 90 days.
Work boot allowance: $145 per year.
Prescription safety glasses: $150 every two years.
