This Automation And Robotics Specialist Position Features:
Salary: $60,000–$90,000 per year + discretionary bonus
Shift: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Start Date: Immediate
The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Automation and Robotics Specialist to lead the design, development, and implementation of automation solutions in a manufacturing environment. This role involves programming and integrating PLCs, HMIs, robots, and other electromechanical systems, while driving efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed automation designs, including controls, electrical, pneumatic components, testing, commissioning, and validation.
- Read, interpret, and write electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- Install, program, and integrate PLCs, HMIs, robots, tooling, drives, actuators, sensors, and vision systems.
- Program Fanuc, Yasakawa, Kuka, Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, Omron, or Siemens robots and PLCs (online/offline using CIM Station, Fanuc Weld Pro, MotoSim, Robot Studio).
-Identify opportunities to automate manual operations and provide ROI analysis for approval.
- Integrate specialized hardware and software to enhance manufacturing efficiency, throughput, and cycle time.
- Prepare training documentation, work instructions, and procedures for production and maintenance handover.
- Collaborate with engineers and suppliers to monitor equipment progress, perform trial runs, and validate new or retrofitted equipment.
- Support continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and implementation of solutions to sustain OEE and quality standards.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations (OHSA, ESA, CSA) and internal standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or college degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Robotics, Automation, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering. P.Eng and PMP certifications are desirable.
- 10 years of verifiable experience in controls and automation in manufacturing or automation industries.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics, and ladder/function block/ST logic.
- Hands-on experience with industrial PCs, PLCs (Beckhoff, Siemens, AB, Omron), relays, contractors, limit switches, and proximity sensors.
- Experience applying electronics, pneumatics, and electromechanical devices.
- Proficient in programming PLCs and HMIs; knowledge of VFD, DC, and servo drives.
- Strong technical communication skills, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Familiarity with industrial machine controls, safety circuits, and vision systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Office; Visual Basic or Excel macros is an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, with occasional travel required.
- Valid passport with ability to travel to the US and Mexico
What We Offer:
Competitive salary: $60k–$90k + discretionary bonus based on performance.
Benefits: 80/20 split (medical, dental, vision) after 90 days.
RRSP match up to 4% after 90 days.
