Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Operator for a direct hire opportunity in Scarborough, ON. This role is ideal for a skilled CNC machinist with strong setup, programming, and operating experience who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality machined components.

The CNC Lathe Operator will be responsible for setting up, editing programs, and operating CNC lathes to complete turning, threading, drilling, boring, grooving, and finishing operations according to engineering drawings and strict tolerance requirements. This is a hands-on role in a structured manufacturing environment where safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up, program, edit, and operate CNC lathes for rough and finish turning, threading, tapping, grooving, drilling, and boring operations.
- Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, G and M codes, manufacturing instructions, and program revisions to ensure accurate production.
- Select proper tooling, measure tool lengths and offsets, monitor cycle times, and make adjustments to meet quality and efficiency targets.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers to inspect parts against required tolerances.
- Complete first-off and last-off inspections, identify parts correctly, remove burrs and sharp edges, and report nonconformities to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following ISO processes, lockout procedures, machine safety manuals, and plant safety rules.

Primary duties and projects include:

- Set up and operate CNC lathes independently for precision machining operations.
- Read engineering drawings and verify CNC programs against part specifications and revisions.
- Inspect machined components using precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.
- Improve workflow, setup time, cycle time, tooling performance, and overall production efficiency.

Required qualifications and skills:

- High school diploma with technical training in CNC operations.
- CNC machinist certificate or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programs, including G and M codes.
- Ability to download, edit, and verify programs as needed for tooling and drawing requirements.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Strong math and geometry skills.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and lift magnets for part setup.
- Knowledge of tooling selection, surface finish requirements, offsets, and efficient cutting practices.
- Strong commitment to producing quality parts within required tolerances.
- Good communication skills with the ability to share information, report issues, and collaborate with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently while following company safety rules, ISO processes, and production standards.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with ISO procedures and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong understanding of setup reduction, cycle time improvement, and faster changeover methods.
- Experience machining components for automotive, repair, or related industrial applications.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
