Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Operator for a direct hire opportunity in Scarborough, ON. This role is ideal for a skilled CNC professional who can independently set up, program, and operate CNC lathes while producing precision components to engineering specifications.
The CNC Lathe Operator will work in a manufacturing environment that values quality, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes for rough and finish turning, threading, tapping, grooving, drilling, boring, and finishing operations.
- Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, specifications, G codes, and M codes to ensure correct program selection and part production.
- Download, edit, verify, and adjust CNC programs as needed to match tooling, revisions, drawings, and setup requirements.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers to inspect parts and confirm dimensional accuracy.
- Complete first-off and last-off inspections, record production details, report nonconformities, and ensure finished parts are properly deburred, identified, and tagged.
- Maintain an organized and safe work area while supporting efficient setups, reduced cycle times, continuous improvement, and ISO process requirements.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Set up and operate CNC lathes independently for precision machining work.
- Interpret CNC programs, drawings, tolerances, tooling requirements, and machining sequences.
- Inspect machined components using precision measuring tools to confirm quality and compliance.
- Support safe, efficient production through accurate setups, documentation, and workflow planning.
- 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes in a similar manufacturing or machining role.
- CNC Machinist certificate or equivalent experience.
- High school education with technical training in CNC operations.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, including the ability to understand and work with G codes and M codes.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and revisions.
- Skilled in using micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, verniers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Strong math and geometry skills for machining calculations, offsets, tolerances, and setup accuracy.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and lift magnets as required for part setup.
- Knowledge of tooling, surface finish requirements, machine capability, and efficient cutting practices.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce quality parts within specified tolerances.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors, shop employees, engineering, and office staff.
- Commitment to workplace safety, lockout procedures, PPE usage, machine safety requirements, and plant safety rules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within ISO manufacturing processes.
- Experience identifying opportunities to reduce setup time, improve cycle times, and support faster changeovers.
- Familiarity with maintaining accurate labour sheets, inspection records, and production documentation.
- Experience in a precision manufacturing environment with strict quality and tolerance requirements.
