Job Summary
We are seeking experienced CNC Lathe Operators for direct hire opportunities in Scarborough, ON. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled CNC machinists who enjoy precision work, independent setup, and producing high-quality parts in a professional manufacturing environment.
The CNC Lathe Operator will set up, program, edit, and operate CNC lathes to perform turning, threading, drilling, boring, grooving, and finishing operations according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role is ideal for candidates who take pride in accuracy, safe work practices, clean setups, and continuous improvement.
This position offers long-term stability, hands-on technical work, and the opportunity to collaborate with supervisors, engineering, and production teams in a supportive shop environment focused on quality, safety, teamwork, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes for rough and finish turning, threading, tapping, grooving, drilling, and boring operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, G codes, and M codes to run and verify CNC programs.
- Edit programs as needed, confirm revisions match drawings, select tooling, measure offsets, and ensure accurate machining.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers to confirm tolerance requirements.
- Monitor setup times, cycle times, tooling performance, part quality, and workflow efficiency while maintaining accurate production and inspection records.
- Follow all safety, lockout, ISO, housekeeping, and company procedures while communicating production or quality concerns to supervisors.
Compensation and Benefits
- Direct hire position.
- Pay range: $47,840 to $49,920 per year.
- Hourly rate: $23.00 per hour.
- Location: Scarborough, ON.

Additional Skills
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Set up and run CNC lathes independently for precision machining operations.
- Read blueprints, engineering drawings, CNC programs, G codes, and M codes.
- Perform first-off, in-process, and last-off inspections to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Maintain efficient setups, accurate records, clean work areas, and safe machine operation.
- Minimum 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes in a similar machining role.
- CNC Machinist certificate, technical CNC training, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC lathe operations, tooling, offsets, cutting conditions, and program verification.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools including micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers.
- Strong math and geometry skills with the ability to machine parts to tight tolerances.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and lift magnets as required.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to report nonconformities, safety concerns, and production issues clearly.
- Commitment to quality, safety, ISO procedures, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience identifying ways to reduce setup times, improve cycle times, and support faster changeovers.
- Experience working in an ISO-driven manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of tooling selection for surface finish, tolerance control, and efficient machining.
- Previous experience collaborating with supervisors, engineering, and production teams to improve machining outcomes.
