Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer/Operator for a direct hire opportunity in Scarborough, ON within a  manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on CNC machinist who can independently set up, program, edit, and operate CNC lathes while producing precision components to tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up, program, edit, and operate CNC lathes for turning, threading, tapping, grooving, drilling, boring, and finishing operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, G and M codes, work instructions, and program revisions to ensure accurate machining.
- Select tooling, measure tool lengths and offsets, monitor cycle times, and make adjustments to improve efficiency and part quality.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers to confirm tolerances.
- Complete first-off and last-off inspections, identify nonconformities, maintain accurate labour records, and ensure proper part identification.
- Follow all machine safety procedures, lockout requirements, ISO processes, and workplace health and safety standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Set up and operate CNC lathes independently for precision metal machining.
- Program, edit, download, and verify CNC lathe programs using G and M codes.
- Perform detailed part inspections and maintain quality documentation.
- Improve setup times, cycle times, workflow, and machining efficiency.

- High school education with technical training in CNC operations.
- CNC machinist certificate or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programs, machining processes, tooling, and offsets.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and verniers.
- Above average math and geometry skills.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and lift magnets.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce quality parts within tight tolerances.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, engineering, and office staff.
- Commitment to safe work practices, machine safety procedures, ISO processes, and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in automotive parts manufacturing or a precision metal fabrication environment.
- Experience recommending process improvements to reduce setup time, cycle time, and changeover time.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and continuous improvement practices.
