Job Summary

We are recruiting for a CNC Machine Operator in Scarborough, ON for a direct hire opportunity within a manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced CNC Lathe Operator or CNC Machinist who can independently set up, program, operate, and inspect precision-machined components to tight specifications.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes for rough and finish turning, threading, tapping, grooving, drilling, boring, and finishing operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, G and M codes, work instructions, and program revisions to ensure accurate machining.
- Select tooling, measure tool lengths and offsets, monitor cycle times, and make edits or adjustments as needed.
- Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments to verify tolerances, surface finish, and overall quality.
- Record first-off and last-off inspections, report nonconformities, and ensure parts are deburred, tagged, stamped, and properly identified.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while supporting ISO processes, safety procedures, and continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Set up and operate CNC lathes independently for precision machining.
- Interpret CNC programs, G and M codes, and mechanical engineering drawings.
- Inspect components using precision measuring tools to confirm tight tolerances.
- Support production efficiency by reducing setup times, improving cycle times, and planning the next job while machines are running.

- High school education with technical training in CNC operations.
- CNC machinist certificate or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, tooling, offsets, machining processes, and setup procedures.
- Ability to use micrometers, bore gauges, gauge blocks, verniers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Above-average math and geometry skills.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and lift magnets.
- Strong understanding of machining quality standards, part tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of machine safety procedures, lockout procedures, PPE requirements, and general plant safety rules.
- Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, engineering, and office staff.
- Ability to work independently, stay organized, and maintain accurate labour and inspection records.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in an ISO-regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience recommending improvements to machining processes, setup times, cycle times, or workflow efficiency.
- Strong background machining parts to strict tolerance and quality requirements.
