Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Safety Specialist for a direct hire opportunity in the Scarborough area. This role is ideal for an experienced health, safety, and environmental professional who is confident working in active field environments, conducting inspections, supporting incident investigations, and helping teams maintain safe, compliant worksites.

The Environmental Safety Specialist will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture across job sites and facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with workers, supervisors, management, and subcontractors to support safe operations and ensure environmental, health, and safety standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

- Promote and enforce safe work practices across job sites and facilities throughout the City of Toronto.
- Respond to workplace incidents by conducting investigations, gathering statements, photographing scenes, identifying root causes, and preparing detailed reports.
- Perform documented facility, building, and field inspections to identify environmental, health, and safety hazards.
- Audit safety practices at worker, supervisory, and management levels to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Conduct subcontractor and new worker orientation sessions and assist with in-house safety training.
- Support the ordering and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment for workers, supervisors, and management staff.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $65,000 to $70,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Conduct field and facility safety inspections to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Deliver safety orientations and support training initiatives for employees and subcontractors.
- Audit safety practices across multiple levels of the organization.

- College diploma or university degree in a related field required, with Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Safety Inspector, Safety Auditor, Safety Compliance Officer, or similar role.
- Experience in a large construction environment required, preferably in utility, natural gas, or telecommunications construction.
- Valid G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract required.
- Strong knowledge of construction Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Electrical Utility Safety Association rules, and the Environmental Protection Act.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills required.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to read, understand, and apply company policies and procedures.
- Ability to gather, assess, and report critical information to management.
- Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to remain professional in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in ISO and COR certified environments.
- Background supporting safety programs within utility, natural gas, telecommunications, or infrastructure construction environments.
- Experience facilitating safety training or contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
