Job Summary
We are recruiting for a Finance Controller opportunity in Thorold, ON with a company in the printing and publishing industry. This direct hire role is ideal for an experienced accounting and finance leader who enjoys owning financial reporting, improving controls, supporting operational decision-making, and leading a capable accounting team.
As the Finance Controller, you will play a key role in financial strategy, multi-entity reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and business performance. This is a strong opportunity for a CPA-designated finance professional who wants to make a visible impact in a stable, operations-focused environment with supportive leadership, collaborative teams, and a performance-based profit-sharing program.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on leadership experience, and the ability to improve processes while supporting accurate and timely financial information across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance activities, and month-end close processes.
- Oversee consolidated multi-entity financial reporting, intercompany transactions, foreign exchange, and CAD/USD reporting.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning support for leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal controls, accounting processes, reporting tools, and operational efficiencies.
- Lead, coach, and mentor the accounting team while supporting professional growth and accountability.
- Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insight that supports business decisions and performance improvement.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $120,000 to $130,000 per year.
- Company-paid benefits.
- Profit-sharing bonus program of up to 15%, based on individual and company performance.

Additional Skills
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Lead accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
- Manage consolidated multi-entity reporting, budgeting, forecasting, FX, intercompany transactions, and CAD/USD reporting.
- Develop and mentor the accounting team while improving processes and operational efficiency.
- Partner with leadership to provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations that support business performance.
- CPA designation required.
- 7 or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- Leadership experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting role.
- Strong experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidated reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting capabilities.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Sage 300, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial close processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and team development skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in inventory-based distribution, wholesale, retail, printing, publishing, or similar operational environments.
- Experience supporting process improvements, reporting automation, ERP optimization, or finance transformation initiatives.
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally with operations, sales, supply chain, and senior leadership.
- Experience in environments with CAD/USD reporting, foreign exchange exposure, and intercompany activity.
