Job Summary

We are seeking a Health & Safety Specialist for a direct hire opportunity supporting construction and field operations across the City of Toronto. This role is ideal for an experienced safety professional who understands construction jobsite compliance, field inspections, incident investigations, and the importance of building a strong safety culture.

The Health & Safety Specialist will play a key role in protecting workers, supervisors, management teams, subcontractors, and the public by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities

- Conduct documented field inspections at construction jobsites to identify safety, health, and environmental hazards and support corrective action.
- Respond to jobsite incidents, complete investigations, gather statements, photograph incident scenes, determine root causes, and prepare reports.
- Perform facility and building inspections to ensure equipment, materials, and work processes meet health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Audit safety practices across worker, supervisory, and management levels to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Conduct subcontractor and new worker orientations and assist with in-house safety training.
- Support PPE ordering and help ensure workers, supervisors, and management staff have appropriate protective equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $65,000 to $70,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Conduct safety inspections and compliance audits across active construction jobsites and facilities.
- Investigate workplace incidents, document findings, identify root causes, and recommend prevention measures.
- Deliver new worker and subcontractor orientations and support internal EHS training initiatives.
- Promote safe work practices and enforce applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.

- College diploma or university degree in a related field required, with Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Field Safety Inspector, Safety Auditor, Safety Compliance Officer, or similar role in a construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario construction health and safety regulations, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Electrical Utility Safety Association rules, and the Environmental Protection Act.
- Valid G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract required.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills required.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to read, understand, and apply company policies and procedures.
- Ability to gather, assess, and report critical safety information to management.
- Professional communication skills with the ability to resolve conflict and diffuse stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in utility, natural gas, or telecommunications construction.
- Experience working in ISO or COR certified environments.
- Background supporting safety programs within a large construction organization.
